The Hon’ble Vice President of India, Mr Venkaiah Naidu visited the CSIR – Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad on Jan 27, 2020. He interacted with the senior scientists and the young PhD students as he visited the different facilities at the Centre. During the visit, he also released the Societal Impact Assessment of CCMB done by Administrative Staff College of India. He greatly appreciated the impact CCMB has created in society through its knowledge generation and technology development as well as supporting other researchers in the city and country through sharing its centralized facilities. CCMB’s support to the establishment of Shantha Biotechnics – the first biotechnology company in India, which made Hepatitis-B vaccine affordable to the country to creating better rice varieties in India that has helped farmers across the country now was highly commended by Mr Naidu. He also expressed his aspirations on CCMB’s efforts towards understanding Indian population’s genome towards development personalized medicine. The event was also attended by Directors of various research institutes and Vice-Chancellors of the universities in the city.
